Resumen

CERERO-CRUZ, Luis et al. Strawberry crop (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) in hydroponic systems with substrate mixtures. Acta Agron. [online]. 2023, vol.72, n.1, pp.70-77.  Epub 27-Mayo-2024. ISSN 0120-2812.  https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v72n1.110426.

Strawberry cultivation can be established in the open field or under controlled conditions, using greenhouses, macro-tunnels and hydroponic systems. Hydroponic systems present advantages as the obtention off better-quality products and the increase of the water and fertilizer use efficiency. The purpose of this research was to evaluate agronomic variables that influence the growth of strawberry plants (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) of the variety Albion in three hydroponic systems with four substrate mixtures in greenhouses. A completely randomized experimental design was established with a 3 x 4 factorial arrangement, that is, 3 hydroponic systems (pyramidal, vertical and horizontal) and 4 substrate mixtures (coconut fiber+peat+perlite; coconut fiber; coconut fiber+perlite; and olote). Steiner’s 100 % nutrient solution was applied in closed systems. A daily irrigation was made, renewing the solution every 7 days. In the horizontal system, biomass (16.71 g), plant height (20.04 cm), crown diameter (21.40 mm), number of leaves (17.72) and crowns (4.51), root volume (14 0.05 ml) and leaf area (603.09 cm2) showed significantly (Duncan, p ≤ 0.05) higher values with respect to the vertical and pyramidal systems. The mixture of coconut fiber+peat+perlite showed the highest values of all the variables evaluated. Strawberry plants expressed their greatest growth and vegetative development in the horizontal hydroponic system and with the mixture of coconut fiber+peat+perlite.
