Resumen

TORRES GONZALEZ, Laura Marcela; MAYOR DURAN, Víctor Manuel  y  CHACON SANCHEZ, María Isabel. Heterotic grouping of tropical maize inbred lines using diallel crosses and SNP molecular markers. Acta Agron. [online]. 2023, vol.72, n.2, pp.176-187.  Epub 10-Mayo-2024. ISSN 0120-2812.  https://doi.org/10.15446/acag.v72n2.110480.

One of the objectives of maize breeding programs is to develop inbred lines of high genetic value, which, when crossed, can produce hybrids with superior agronomic characteristics. In Colombia, obtaining hybrids is of great interest since they can help increase maize yield and production, bridging the gap between national production and the current 74% maize import. Semillas Valle S.A. is a colombian company with a hybrid maize breeding program focused on the tropical and subtropical zones. Currently, Semillas Valle S.A.’s maize breeding program lacks a characterization of the germplasm that would allow the establishment of efficient strategies to obtain high- yielding hybrids. In this study, the classification of inbred lines into heterotic groups was carried out based on genomic data using SNP molecular markers and phenotypic variables from 66 inbred lines, and field data from a diallel trial involving 30 parental inbred lines. From a cluster analysis of SNP data, three subpopulation groups were identified. On the other hand, the results of the diallel allowed the classification of lines into three groups based on general combining ability for multiple traits (HGCAMT). However, the integration of these methodologies could provide more information regarding the heterotic groups present in the evaluated population.
