Resumen

ORDONEZ ORDONEZ, Claudia Lucía. NARRATING IN SPANISH OR IN ENGLISH: DO WE THINK DIFFERENTLY. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2012, vol.25, n.2, pp.185-215. ISSN 0120-338X.

The article presents the results of a research project that studied 36 oral narrations based on the graphic story Frog, where are you?, as told by Colombian and American adolescents in Spanish and English. Holistic scoring of the stories was carried out by experts, using comparative discourse analysis and descriptive statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Principal Components of the stories. Findings revealed important differences between the two groups of stories, which expand the concept of narrative 'norm' in Spanish and English. Colombian adolescents emphasized evaluation, time representation, and logical connection in their stories, while American adolescents focused on events and orientation. The article discusses the research and educational implications of these findings.

Palabras clave : narration in Spanish and English; narrative norm in Spanish and English; adolescent language development.
