This article presents part of the results of the research study Criminal argot used in the "Buen Pastor" jail of Bogotá. The sample includes a corpus of lexias, which are described from a semantic approach, focused on motivation phenomenon and lexical creation. The discussion focuses on both the theoretical delimitation of speech variety and the mechanisms of meaning construction, such as: neologisms, synonymy, polysemy and semantic transformation.
