This article contrasts the configuration of ethos in the inaugural address of Chilean president Michelle Bachelet (2006) and that of Argentinian president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2007). I explore whether theethos of these addresses corresponds to the French concept ethos féminin, or feminine style used by American researchers. I analyze how the gender argument is used, both explicitly and implicitly, and I interpret the results as legitimation strategies
