TORRES-HERRERA, HARLISON y MOLINA-ESCOBAR, JORGE MARTÍN. GEOLOGICAL HERITAGE AND GEODIVERSTIY APROACH AT SANTAFE OF ANTIOQUIA, OLAYA AND SOPETRAN, ANTIOQUIA DEPARTMENT, COLOMBIA. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2012, n.32, pp.23-34. ISSN 0120-3630.
Western region at Antioquia Department is located between Western and Central cordilleras of the Colombian Andes. It is close to the Pacific subduction zone and the confluence of Nazca, South American and Caribean plates, where some acreation events have been occurred. Due to the geology of the area, some geomorphological, tectonic, and petrological features are presents. The municipalities a Santafé de Antioquia, Sopetrán and Olaya have different types of rocks, structures, recent deposits, and others items that besides to climate, hydrology and erosion. Those features allow to recognize and to interpret historical geological evolution and to understand the different process. Those conditions are necessary to commit the definition of geological heritage according to some authors around the world. Some of the interesting geological sites are ultramafic rock belt, volcanic ash deposit, and geological terraces of Tonusco and Cauca River, among others. These sites must be valuated, and to be used for geological tourism, and be part of international database.
