This research analyzes over-education in professional areas such as economics, accounting, administration, and engineering in Cali City Metropolitan Area. Information used has been taken from a survey applied to professional individuals from four universities from 2001 to 2005. From this information, corresponding inferences are made and a logit model is formulated for identifying factors influencing on over-education. Most significant results show that there was an over-education decrease from 48.02% to 38.57% from the first employment to current employment. Factors explaining over-education in both first and current employments are the following: genre, having been an employee for a private sector company, having been involved in service activities, having been an employee for micro- and small companies through informal search channels, and having graduated from economic and administrative sciences programs of studies.
