MONROY ROJAS, Sandra; JIMENEZ OROZCO, Luis; MEZA CELY, Nohemí  y  SALCEDO, Juan. Bilateral thalamic infarction caused by Percheron artery obstruction: case report. Acta Neurol Colomb. [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.2, pp.104-114. ISSN 0120-8748.  https://doi.org/10.22379/24224022141.

The ischemic stroke, located in the thalamus bilaterally, are a rare entity. It is estimated that only represent 0.6% of all episodes of stroke for the first time. It is known that originate from occluding an anatomical variant of the paramedian arteries, born up to 45% of cases of ACP same (posterior cerebral artery), either independently or from a common trunk.

When this variant is born from a common trunk known as artery of Percheron, and occlusion causes thalamic infarcts bilateral medial, often symmetrical, associated with thromboembolic events and cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, cigarette among others, producing characteristic symptoms with impaired in the level of consciousness, as the main feature.

Palabras clave : Bilateral thalamic infarct; Thalamus; Thalamus Ischemia; (MeSH).
