CELIS, Álvaro et al. Plant extracts used as biocontrol with emphasis on Piperaceae family. A review. Agron. colomb. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.1, pp.97-106. ISSN 0120-9965.
The present work is a compilation of verified cases of biological activity of extracts and substances of vegetal origin used to control weeds, plagues, and diseases in agricultural sector. It may be evidenced that one of the families with a high number of reports on biological activity is Piperaceae that turns it to be one of most promissory for search extracts o compounds that have applications in the solution of plant health problems. Due to the importance of Piperaceae family and, especially, Piper genus, the investigation groups BioGuavio/AgroUDEC of the University of Cundinamarca and Chemical Study and Biological Activity of Colombian Rutaceae and Myristicaceae of National University of Colombia with the support of Colciencias developed the project "Participative bioprospecting of plant communities associated with Piperaceae family in occidental medium and low Sumapaz region (Code 1101- 05-17783)" in order to identify and verify, in the prospected species, applications of interest in the agricultural sector.
