Autoimmune liver diseases are important causes of liver cirrhosis, because an early treatment impact on prognosis and outcomes, it is very important to know their forms of presentation, diagnosis and treatment, to offer patients the best treatment options in a timely manner. The aim of this article was to describe the characteristics of a group of adult patients with liver cirrhosis secondary to autoimmune hepatitis treated in the Hospital Universitario de Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and to do a review of the literature on the main features of the autoimmune hepatitis. For this purpose we present five cases of liver cirrhosis secondary to autoimmune hepatitis, of which the epidemiological, clinical and laboratory characteristics were analyzed and compared with those found in the literature after a review about this topic.
