Resumen

GUTIERREZ T., Ana Milena; TORRES G., Celina  y  DIAZ, Jaime E.. Effect of Magnetic Fields in Germination, Growth, and Microbial Florishing in Seedlings of Brachiaria humidicola, Panicum maximum, and Zea maiz (Poaceae). rev. cienc. [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.1, pp.9-17. ISSN 0121-1935.

The effect of exposure to magnetic fields, on germination, growth and microbial flora associated with seeds and seedlings of Brachiaria humidicola, Panicum maximum, and Zea maiz (Poaceae) was determined. Seeds of the three species were planted in a culture medium (PDA) and they were arranged in pots with exposure to magnetic field intensity (I1= 4 mT, I2 = 2 mT) or the following periods of time: 1, 10, 20, 60 minutes, 24 and 48 hours. The variables evaluated were: germination rate, total weight of plant biomass, and total length of plants. The results show a positive effect on the germination rate, especially for Brachiaria, which overcomes the strong dormancy that this species has. The response variables: total weight and total length were not correlated with the fixed variables: field intensity and exposure time, for any of the species under study. The prolonged exposure for 48 hours, showed a small reduction in the population of microorganisms, especially fungi in the different species studied
