Resumen

GONZALEZ VIVEROS, María Constanza; JARAMILLO-SIERRA, Ana Lucía  y  VARGAS TRUJILLO, Elvia. Identity reconfigurations in breadwinner mothers when fathers are the main caregivers of their children. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2024, vol.32, n.1, pp.221-250.  Epub 09-Jun-2024. ISSN 0121-3261.  https://doi.org/10.14482/indes.32.01.407.735.

This article presents the results of the identity reconfiguration processes experienced by women from seven heterosexual couples where they are the main economic providers of the household and men are the primary caregivers of their children. The results of this qualitative research showed that this alternative role distribution allows more equitable narratives of themselves which enhances their well-being. This, as it allows them to continue their professional development in the context of their life projects, experience motherhood from joy and not from guilt, and value the role of their partners as main caregivers. However, these identities are constrained when women internalize some cultural gender norms. We discuss the implications of the results in terms of the development of initiatives to promote gender equality.

Palabras clave : Identity; gender; breadwinner mothers; caregiving fathers.
