ENRIQUEZ GUERRERO, CAROLINA LUCERO y CATANO ORDONEZ, NHORA. Total family risk in families with schoolchildren according to academic performance. av.enferm. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.2, pp.127-138. ISSN 0121-4500.
This article presents the results of a study whose objective was to establish the family risk differences among two groups of families: one with schoolchildren that show high academic performance and children that show low academic performance in an educational center in Bogotá. Methodology: cross-sectional comparative study with and analytic component and a quantitative approach; the sample was 186 families during the period April-July 2007. The results show a predominance of nuclear families in both groups (65%), reverse relation between the family risk evaluated by the RFT 7-70 instrument and the academic performance of the family´s schoolchild, that is to say that the families that recorded a high risk (9%) and average risk (31%) are, to a large extent, families with schoolchildren that show low academic performance, in respect of the predominance of low family risk (78%) in families with children that show high academic performance. The t of student was applied to differentiate averages and association was found (P = 0,02) between the total high family risk and the low academic performance of the schoolchild. In conclusion, these results suggest mainly that risk factors that determine higher family risk in families with schoolchildren who show low academic performance must be prioritized and that integral healthcare must be provided with a family and intersectorial approach as well as active participation from the community. Continue research activities in possible associations between individual health, health practice, and education, socio-economic and psycho-affective environment of the family and academic achievement of schoolchildren in families with school age children.
