Resumen

CEA RODRIGUEZ, Jorge; MEDINA, Francisco J.  y  RAMIREZ-MARIN, Jimena. EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES BY CHILEAN LABOR MEDIATORS. Innovar [online]. 2023, vol.33, n.88, pp.133-148.  Epub 15-Feb-2024. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v33n88.106277.

This article attempts to describe the effectiveness of the behavior of labor mediators in Chilean collective conflicts, while giving an account of the functioning of the labor mediation system in Chile. Nineteen interviews were conducted with Chilean labor mediators from five mediation centers distributed across the country, using the questionnaire on successful mediators proposed by Goldberg (2005) as the baseline. Self-descriptions were analyzed using atlas.ti 9.0 software, from which the proposed system of mediation strategies was used to develop a good relationship with the parties through empathy, trust, neutrality, and active listening. Labor mediators reported the use of two types of strategies (contextual and reflective), where those of the substantive type are not included. Results are consistent with research findings reporting that the use of contextual and reflective strategies by mediators is the main reason for their success, with no distinction regarding the strategies deployed for different types of conflicts.

Palabras clave : Mediator behaviors; labor conflicts; mediation strategies; mediation success; Chilean labor mediators.
