The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between, on the one hand, the socioeconomic level and the gender of law students in Colombia; on the other hand, the quality of the education they receive.

This text reaches two conclusions. First, the supply of legal education is wide and heterogeneous, and it is characterized by the prevalence of low-quality programs and students.

The second conclusion is that this disparity in supply is biased in terms of social class and gender. The access to high-quality legal education is limited: in the private sector, to those who have high economic capacity (mostly women); and, in the public sector, to those who have outstanding academic results (mostly men).

The most disadvantaged are women with low economic capital. They cannot pay the tuitions of the best private programs and are worse equipped than men of their own social class to overcome the access filters to the best public programs. In this sense, legal education reproduces gender and class inequalities, instead of reducing them.
