FORONDA-ROBLES, Concepción y GALINDO-PEREZ-DE-AZPILLAGA, Luis. Argumentation on Territorial Confidence: Keys on Social Capital. Cuad. Desarro. Rural [online]. 2012, vol.9, n.68, pp.41-63. ISSN 0122-1450.
Social capital offers alternatives for approaching territorial development highlighting the importance of informal practices and behaviors derived from values that promote integration. The purpose of this work is to review the theories and literature on this concept in order to assert its extent. This will allow us to consider the currents and methodologies that emphasize the whole of society as key in regional leadership, based on ethical values such as reciprocity, cooperation or commitment, and social values such as trust. The emphasis on the analysis of the trust placed on expectations regarding territories becomes important when people have to choose a course of action knowing that their success depends on the actions of others. Additional discussion topics also emerge, such as the current belief that individuals cannot transform their environment, or the question of how globalization represents a blurring of boundaries for the territories and the emergence of or abandonment by new global players.
