The present research proposes a discussion of some analytical approaches to further explore the modern, colonial narratives about indigenous women in the Chaco region. Recognizing that the production of these narratives about the alterity are intertwined with the conditions of possibility delimited by the modern/colonial epistemology, we have set to analyze the writings of the jesuit priests Martin Dobrizhoffer and Florian Paucke, who have worked at the Chaco missions in the second half of the 18th century, and the writings of Félix de Azara, exploring how these narratives were disturbed by the colonial encounter.
