REYES-ORTIZ, Oscar J y CAMACHO-TAUTA, Javier. Grading Influence On Rutting In The Asphalt Mistures. Ing. Desarro. [online]. 2008, n.23, pp.26-42. ISSN 0122-3461.
The geotechnic engineering research group of the Universidad M. Nueva Granada, carried out a research about the performance of different bituminous mixes under the wheel tracking test when their gradations changes in the upper, middle and lower layer. Two sets of mixes were studied belonging to the Instituto Nacional de Vias (INVIAS) and the Instituto Distral Urbano (IDU). Previous testing, the granular material and the bitumen were studied in order to determine their properties, and the optimum rate of binder was determined using the Marshall test. Finally, specimens were made following the specifications found in the characterization tests and the wheel tracking test was applied. As a result, the only gradation that satisfies the specifications regarding the deformation velocity is the MD10. Furthermore, it has been found that the rutting is strongly related with the gradations and the compaction energy.
