Resumen
LOBO, Júlio César. Tendencies in Contemporary Brazilian Documentary Films (Use and Abuse of the Community Study as a Method and the Interview as a Research Technique). Palabra Clave [online]. 2008, vol.11, n.1, pp.53-59. ISSN 0122-8285.
The article analyzes four Brazilian documentaries inspired by the community studies method and structured on a collage of interviews as the final discourse. These narratives are problematic, even in terms of the interviews and the testimonies themselves. Far from being a dialogue set on stage, they reflect an attempt at transparency on the part of the filmmaker. In our opinion, this leads to serious ethical infractions, primarily because it reveals, without intermediation, the intimacy of those being interviewed. For example, it would free a couple taking advantage of the documentary, and its limited reception, of any inhibitions about expressing their disagreements. The study is ba-sed on Santa Marta: duas semanas no Morro (RJ, 2000); Babilônia 2000 (RJ 2000), Edificio Master (RJ, 2002), all directed by E. Coutinho; and Nem Gravata, nem Honra (SP, 2003), directed by M. Masagão.
