RODRIGUEZ, Gabriel y RODRIGUEZ, Carlos. A NEW SUBSPECIES OF Morpho niepelti FOR COLOMBIA. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.237-242. ISSN 0123-3068.
A new Morpho niepelti antioquiensis n. ssp. subspecies is described which has been found in the northeast slope of the Colombian Central Cordillera in the department of Antioquia. This subspecies is closely related to Morpho niepelti which dwells in the west side of the northwest Andes of Colombia and Ecuador. Morpho niepelti antioquiensis n. ssp has a color pattern on the dorsal and ventral faces which allows its differentiation from the nominal species. It is endemic of the northeast part of the Central Cordillera in Antioquia and Caldas, in the specific zone of Amalfi-Anori and La Miel-Samana which correspond to endemic centers of fog forests that are part of the Nechi refuge.
