Resumen

AYRES PINTO, Danielle Jacon  y  MORAES, Isabela. Digital Media as a Tool of Manipulation in Democratic Electoral Processes: An Analysis of the Brexit Case. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2020, n.74, pp.71-82. ISSN 0123-885X.  https://doi.org/10.7440/res74.2020.06.

The year 2016 is considered a milestone in international politics. The victories by Brexit and Donald Trump marked the rise of the extreme right in the West and the institutionalization of what became known as the “post-truth era”. In both instances, there was a disregard for democratic values and the adoption of an exclusionary discourse to pursue the objectives of a specific political group. It is against this background that a vast body of literature is beginning to emerge on how we came to mistrust institutions and the veracity of facts. This article is intended to be part of these contributions, as it provides an interpretation of the current context of the weakening of democratic values and processes through a digital strategy of societal manipulation.

Palabras clave : Brexit; democracy; far right; digital media; digital political marketing.
