Resumen

LEAL-PINEDO, JORGE MIGUEL  y  LINARES-PALOMINO, REYNALDO. The dry forests of the Biosphere Reserve of Northwestern ( Peru ): Tree diversity and conservation status. Caldasia [online]. 2005, vol.27, n.2, pp.195-211. ISSN 0366-5232.

Based on data from 16 published and unpublished forest inventory plots we analyze and discuss structural and diversity patterns in two conservation areas of the Northwestern Biosphere Reserve in Peru (Cerros de Amotape National Park and Tumbes Reserved Area). Tree density varied between 31 and 458 individuals per hectare. 34 families, 58 genera and 85 woody species and morphospecies were identified for the 16 hectares. The most species rich plot contained 38 species, while the lowest value was five species found in a plot. These differences are assumed to be the product of local environmental heterogeneity (especially water availability and edaphic factors). Additionally, agriculture and logging are identified and discussed as activities of negative influence on the conservation status of these forests. Thus, natural and human derived factors are determining the regenerative capacity and actual state of the dry forest.
