Resumen
SIMBAQUEBA, Ronald y SERNA, Francisco. Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) of Colombia, with new records for northern South America. Caldasia [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.1, pp.1-27. Epub 24-Mar-2021. ISSN 0366-5232. https://doi.org/10.15446/caldasia.v41n3.77979.
Aphids are important insects in agronomy, due to their sap-sucking habits in cultivable plants. Their damages may generate economic losses and become lethal to plants, due to diseases produced by the viruses that several aphids transmit. Despite their importance, taxonomic inventories in the country are still incipient. Also, species studied in previous works are not represented by specimens in collections, which makes it difficult to achieve taxonomic corroborations. In the present work, we enrich the knowledge of aphid species for the country, as well as generate new records of species for northern South America. Most samples proceeded directly from field collecting and a few others from several institutional collections in the country, 1 400 specimens were studied and incorporated into the Museo entomológico Universidad Nacional Agronomía Bogotá (UNAB). We offered a taxonomic key for 42 species, diagnosis and illustrations for 27 species, and a list of 51 botanical host species. Eulachnus rileyi, Greenidea psidii, Wahlgreniella nervata, Neomyzus circumflexum, Myzus ascalonicus, Illinoia morrisoni, and Ovatus crataegarius are recorded for the first time for the country.
