DE MELO SOUZA, João Pedro; ALBERTO, Klaus Chaves  y  ANDRADE BARBOSA, Sabrina. Investigating the influence of architectural variables on the daylighting of a residential light well. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2024, vol.26, n.1, pp.91-106.  Epub 03-Mayo-2024. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2024.26.4599.

The light well is an architectural resource used to provide daylighting from the core of the building. It is often designed according to an index without taking into account the influence of each of the architectural variables on the daylighting gains. Therefore, this study aims to identify and compare the influence of these architectural variables on the daylighting performance of a residential light well. For this purpose, a basic model of a six-storey light well in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, was parametrically simulated by varying, in alternative cases, its geometric dimension, the reflectance of its walls and the window opening of the rooms connected to it. The Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE1000) and Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA300/50%) metrics were used to evaluate daylighting, using Climate Studio software. It was observed that increasing reflectance is a solution that improves the distribution of natural light without increasing the level of direct sunlight, while increasing the geometric dimension results in a greater area of direct sunlight in the fountain, not exceeding the fourth floor. To minimize the risk of visual discomfort in the rooms, the windows should be smaller in the upper half and larger in the lower half of the light well. Thus, the variables considered contribute in different ways to increase the daylighting in the evaluated environments, although the risk of visual discomfort must be considered in some cases.
