CRIPPA, Anelise; LOUREIRO, Fernanda y GOMES, Irenio. VULNERABILITY IN ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE: PURSUIT FOR RIGHTS. rev.latinoam.bioet. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.1, pp.198-219. ISSN 1657-4702. https://doi.org/10.18359/rlbi.1462.
The following investigation attempted to verify the reasons for which Alzheimer's disease patients chose to pursue legal recourse. For this a search was conducted in the Court of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, within the period of one year, for court decisions containing the word "Alzheimer." 65 decisions were found to be related to Alzheimer's disease. Of those, the majority consisted of requests for medication (65.6%), followed by requests for diapers (17.0%). It is important for legislation to be implemented in order to lower the number of judicial requests, as well as the need for an understanding of the severity of this disease in order for lawsuits to be processed quickly, allowing for a decrease in lawsuits, but also that there must be an understanding of the seriousness of the disease so that lawsuits can be processed in a quicker manner.
