Resumen

ARAUJO, Rhayssa de Oliveira et al. Impact of Varicose Ulcers on the Quality of Life of Persons Receiving Primary Care. Aquichan [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.1, pp.56-66. ISSN 1657-5997.  https://doi.org/10.5294/aqui.2016.16.1.7.

Objective: Analyze the impact of varicose ulcers (VU) on the quality of life (QOL) of persons receiving primary health care. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted with 101 patients who were treated at 42 health centers in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil). Data collection was done from February to September 2014, using a socio-demographic, clinical and health questionnaire and the Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: Quality of life was compromised, especially in terms of the person's emotional and aesthetic condition, with the worst average being for those with lesions that are more than a year old. A statistically significant association between the actual time or age of VU and emotional state (p = 0.008) was identified, with the highest average (64.2) applying to those with VU that are more than a year old. Conclusions: Persons with VU over a year old are more compromised in terms of their QOL. Intervention and action are needed to promote the health of this population
