Resumen

RAMIREZ PLAZAS, Elias; LARA FIGUEROA, Derly Cibelly  y  RUEDA RAMIREZ, Humberto. The social capital of the neighborhood manicurists. Pensam. gest. [online]. 2017, n.42, pp.215-232. ISSN 1657-6276.  https://doi.org/10.14482/pege.42.10473.

This article aims to understand the importance of the social relationships of the manicurist in Neiva (Huila- Colombia), in order to stay in the informal economy. For this study 63 women of different ages were selected. The manicurists were given a semi- structure interview guide based on the theory of categories by Granovetter (1973), Burt (2000), Coleman (1988) and Bourdieu (1980). The findings indicated that the manicurists joined the informal economy through their families and friendship networks, and also that their competences have contributed to build a reputation, not only in those networks, but also in their expansion thanks to the new connections made. In conclusion, the manicurists are not permanently limited by the primary groups (family and friends), but they also explore new connections, gaining a competitive advantage.
