Resumen

CORREDOR-GARCIA, Juan. What does peace mean? Sociology of the Media in the Havana Agreement. Soc. Econ. [online]. 2022, n.45, e10711209.  Epub 15-Dic-2021. ISSN 1657-6357.  https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i45.11209.

What does peace mean? This question seems very rudimentary; however, it is difficult to define. This research deepens the theoretical and sociological analysis of peace by addressing the negotiations between the Colombian State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. It derives from the principle that peace is far from being a single concept, but considers a wide range of interpretations, expressed in different ways by the participants. Its objective is to analyze the media coverage of the negotiations in six newspapers in order to determine the type of peace that each media outlet outlined in its editorial line. Through a discourse analysis of 568 editorials, a typology was constructed with five approaches: security, liberal, constructivist, pluralist and environmental. Most analyses in peace studies focus on other actors, excluding the media. The article demonstrates that they exhibit substantial contributions to alternative approaches to peace.

Palabras clave : peace; typology; media; territory.
