Resumen

GUARINO, Leticia; BORRAS, Sonia  y  SCREMIN, Fausto. Diferencias individuales como predictoras de la salud y calidad de vida percibida en embarazadas. Pensam. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.10, n.2, pp.135-148. ISSN 1657-8961.

Objetive. To determine whether certain individual differences such as emotional style (rumination and emotional inhibition), negative egocentric sensitivity and coping are able to predict the perceived health and quality of life of pregnant women. Method. A sample of 94 Venezuelan women on their first trimester of pregnancy completed questionnaires on emotional style, emotional sensitivity, coping, perceived health and quality of life. Results. Having a negative emotional style and using dysfunctional ways of coping during pregnancy predict a higher deterioration of the perceived health status and the quality of life of these women along their first term of pregnancy. Other coping styles such as positive interpretation act as a protective factor for the health status of this group. Conclusión. The study reveals the importance of measuring the individual differences of the pregnant women and to develop intervention programs regarding these factors, with the aim at promoting better health status and quality of life during this important process in women.

Palabras clave : Individual differences; health; quality of life during pregnancy.
