CACERES MORALES, Eduardo Daniel y ROTTENBACHER DE ROJAS, Jan Marc. Psychological Consequences of Success in a Sample of Young Soccer Players from the City of Lima. Pensam. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.7-18. ISSN 1657-8961.
Objective. This study aims to generally determine, describe and analyze the perceived consequences of success in a sample of twelve young players of a sports club in Lima, Peru. Also, as a secondary objective, to determine the concepts of success in that sample. Method. A qualitative non-experimental and exploratory study, in which we used a semi-structured interview that was designed for the purposes of this study. The sample comprised of 12 male youth soccer players whose ages ranged between 17 and 18 years. Results. It was found that the main perceived consequences of success are greater motivation, increased confidence, well-being, recognition, constructive criticism, personal benefits, increased pressure, less humility, greater arrogance and guilt. Conclusion. From the above it follows that the consequences of success can be perceived both positively and negatively. While some of these findings are consistent with those reported in previous exploratory studies, others are unfamiliar, recommending the construction of new instruments or the adaptation of existing ones in future measurements within the Latin-American context.
