El Tambo and Timbío the basis of the economy are the primary sector activities, especially agricultural production and forestry. This study aimed to recognize and identify useful plant species in local food and medicine and associated with their use and management in farms and Timbío El Tambo, Cauca knowledge as a strategy to contribute to the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and to strengthening food security of communities in the region. The work methodology was based on the 'Participatory Action Research'. The research area included nine villages in El Tambo and two Timbío, workshops, semi-structured surveys and personal interviews were conducted. In total 25 farms were selected with high agrobiodiversity plant where species and traditional knowledge associated with their use and management were identified. It was found that the agro-biodiversity of plant food and medicinal use, and the traditional knowledge associated with them, is in highly vulnerable, because there is a strong process of genetic erosion and loss of ancestral knowledge that threatens food security the households of farmers settled in this region. It is expected to contribute to the research in the conservation of natural resources and awareness of the current problems.
