Resumen

CORDINI, Mabel. La Resiliencia en adolescentes del Brasil. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.1, pp.97-121. ISSN 1692-715X.

This study examines the components of resilience, using the SOC (Sense of Coherence) approach in order to understand how adolescents with experience of prior trauma or stress construct their identity of well being in a perspective of the protean self. Previous research by A. Antonovsky (1979-1988) defines this ability as composed of three parts: a cognitive, an instrumental and an affective and developed the SOC scale to measure it. The studies expands the utility of the SOC measure, combining it with Protean Self (Hill, 1998) and increasing the broad context of its application in an homogeneous sample of adolescents with prior trauma or stress experiences, and assesses the construction of resilience among adolescent groups in five different social contexts of urban violence. Furthermore, the sample focuses on two main strata of upper middle and lower middle class by interviewing students from private and public secondary schools. Multivariate statistical techniques and qualitative analyses identified several moderators of adversity. Religious practices, engagement in group-activities, perceived support of persons, hope of success in future activities, the actual family situation, future family expectations, and extracurricular involvement, were examined. Results are discussed in terms of implications for resilience the SOC model, their implications for theory, research and future social work orientated to adolescents.
