This paper, a result of the qualitative-hermeneutic research project, "Political conceptions and attitude change with respect to equity in children from high-risk sectors in the coffee-producing region of Colombia", discusses three categories of conceptions on justice in 8-10-year-old children living in violent contexts: justice as "equity" (social-cultural perspective), as "compliance with norms and sanctions" (moral-juridical perspective), and as "exercise of democracy" (political perspective). These categories come out of the analysis of 360 answers to the questions "What is justice for you?" and "Could you give examples of situations or facts that you think have been just or unjust in your family, your school, your neighborhood or our Country?" The theoretical framework of this study starts from an interdisciplinary understanding of political socialization as mediator in the construction of political subjectivity, specifically in the construction of political attitudes and conceptions, defined as a process through which children become involved in the "social contract", adopting or renegotiating norms for living together in society, conceptions, attitudes and behaviors considered as legitimate. The discussion of results emphasizes the active role of subjects, individual differences and potential for change in societies through intentional processes initiated by their social actors; it underscores the crucial role of social-historical circumstances and of the particular form of appropriation that children adopt in the construction of their attitudes, values and political behaviors, and analyzes specific ways in which children's political subjectivity is configured.
