RAIMUNDI, María Julia; MOLINA, María Fernanda; GIMENEZ, Mariel y MINICHIELLO, Claudia. What is a challenge? Qualitative study of its significance among Buenos Aires teenagers. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.2, pp.521-534. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.1221110414.
The pathologizing vision of the teenager in Psychology has been gradually replaced by a more positive one, one oriented towards the study of the factors that promote well-being at this stage. The objective of this work was to research the conceptions of the challenges from the teenagers' perspective. Two focal groups were formed and eleven interviews were conducted to teenagers whose ages ranged from 12 to 17 years, all of them from high schools in Buenos Aires (Argentina). By means of the utilization of the Well-Founded Theory, 16 categories were found to explain the "characteristics of the challenges" and eight categories for the "typologies of the challenges."A conceptual model was achieved allowing us to relate the categories found. Studying challenges and the activities that make them possible implies a greater compression of the factors that promote positive development in adolescence.
