Resumen

IBANEZ-SALGADO, Nolfa. The diversity in the construction of the world of children of two cultures. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.1, pp.357-368. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.13121260914.

The conceptualization of diversity, understood as different ways of constructing the world, is taken as a starting point for this work that aims to reveal the different types of logic that guide daily interactions in which children of two cultures participate: the dominant Chilean culture and the mapuche indigenous culture. This study compares habitual interactions in which urban middle-class children from Santiago and mapuche indigenous children from rural communities participate, first in their households as well as in their classrooms. The research employs a qualitative methodology and an ethnographic approach. The results have shown that the types of logic that guide the daily interactions in mapuche families are different, and in some cases even the opposite to those of the dominant culture. Other results show that diversity is not embraced by teachers and that in the classroom, the initial forms of knowledge constructed by mapuche children within their families are rendered invisible.
