Internet represents a tool with unprecedented educational potential, but to be exploited it is necessary to understand the relationship between the characteristics of their texts and the resources of the reader to learn. Research has identified that Internet readers need two types of knowledge: those related to the topic they are reading about and those related to Internet use; it has been analyzed how these are distinguished and come into play. It also argues that the reader uses two types of strategies: those used in printed text that adapt to Internet text and those that are specific to Internet text. One aspect that remains controversial is the relationship between strategies and previous knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to analyze these investigations, considering their empirical and methodological references in the literature, the knowledge they have contributed and the controversies that have arisen

Palabras clave : Reading; Internet; education; adolescence; reading strategies; prior knowledge.
