ESTEVES PEREIRA, Fernanda; MUNIZ, Monalisa  y  MIGUEL, Fabiano Koich. Evidence of Validity for the Computerized Test of Primary Emotions Perception. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2022, vol.40, n.1, 3.  Epub 26-Sep-2023. ISSN 1794-4724.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/apl/a.10139.

This study aimed at searching for evidence of validity of the Computerized test of Primary Emotions Perception (PEP), relating it with verbal and abstract reasoning, personality traits, personality disorders, age and gender. For that purpose, 491 people with an average age of 28.42 years (SD = 9.59) participated in the study, 50.3 % of which were male. All participants answered the PEP and at least one other test, either the Verbal Reasoning subtest (VR, Battery of Reasoning Tests, BPR-5), the Abstract Reasoning subtest (AR, BPR-5), the Personality Factor Battery (BFP), or the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory Personality (IDCP-2). For statistical analyses, the Mann-Whitney test was used to verify if women performed better on the PEP compared to men. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to verify if emotional intelligence increased or declined with age. Finally, the Spearman correlation was calculated to investigate the correlation between the PEP and the BFP, IDCP-2 and the AR and RV subtests of the BPR-5. We found evidence for convergent validity between the PEP and fluid intelligence, finding significant low and moderate correlations between the PEP and the AR and RV subtests; discriminant validity between PEP and personality with null correlations for pathological traits (IDCP-2), few correlations and of small magnitude for personality traits (BFP); partial criterion validity for age, and there were no significant differences for gender. Given the results, it is possible to conclude that there is evidence of validity for the PEP.

Palabras clave : Emotional intelligence; perception of emotions; psychological tests.
