Risk as category of analysis can not be reduced as a numeric probability, as is usually understood in public health. risk is a topic in modern societies that has been constructed as a pivotal issue to allow its technification and management while has acquired specific social meanings within people's social practices. This article seeks to understand the origin and construction the risk as a key concept in epidemiological studies and propose an analysis of two transmissible diseases: Rocky mountain spotted fever and hiv-aids. Both diseases show the complexity to understand the risk due to the visibility of AIDS and invisibility of the rocky Mountain Spotted fever.
