Resumen
MORALES RUVALCABA, Daniel. New lost decade in Latin America. Reductions of national power in the Southern Cone, the Andes and Mexico. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.44, pp.794-816. Epub 01-Oct-2023. ISSN 1900-6586. https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.1191.
This research seeks to show that, since the 1970s, Latin American countries have experienced three major periods of reduced national power, the last of which constitutes a new lost decade, from 2012 to the present. To this end, studies on the positioning of the countries of the region from the 1960s to the 21st century are reviewed; then, with the support of the World Power Index, the crises experienced in the region are identified. Finally, the stagnation and setbacks in the Southern Cone, the Andes and Mexico during the last decade are analyzed. It is concluded that the pandemic, despite its major negative impact, has only deepened an already existing medium-term trend and has prolonged the peripheral and semi-peripheral positioning of the region in the long term.
