GUERRERO USEDA, María Eugenia. Mining in environmentally protected areas:The Guargua moorland and Laguna Verde Integrated management district. Rev. P+L [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.1, pp.22-31. ISSN 1909-0455.
Introduction. The lack of reference data makes the environmentally protected areas management more difficult, and same thing happens in the ex ante evaluation of mining projects. Objective. To evaluate the environmental impact of mining activities on the physical and the socioeconomic environments at Guargua moorland and Laguna Verde Regional District of Integrated Renewable Natural Resources Management. Materials and methods. An iterative sequential mixed design was chosen. Results. The variation of the physical environment, affecting the environmental quality, the human health and the occurrence of interinstitutional tensions and social conflicts were confirmed. Conclusions. The ex ante definition of the environmental impact the mining projects have, demands a knowledge of their risks for human health, and this requires a thorough characterization of the physical environment and the territory.
