Resumen

AVENDANO GELVES, Lucía F. Gender labor segregation and wage discrimination among women employed in the thirteen metropolitan areas from colombia: a comparison between 2001, 2005 and 2009. rev. econ. Caribe [online]. 2011, n.8, pp.202-231. ISSN 2011-2106.

Colombian labor market has increasingly embraced the female gender to the point of having women holding high-wage positions and recognition. To analyze this, we took into account the records of the Integrated Household Survey, official data for the second quarters of the years 2001, 2005 and 2009. It showed that segregation generates wage gaps, which answers the main question of this paper. Nevertheless the efforts of the women belonging to the labor market has reduced the wage gap between sectors where women are segregated and those where they are not. Their greatest professional preparation, the fewer people at home, their position as head of the family, among other factors have made them more involved in activities that were previously considered exclusive for men.

Palabras clave : Labor segregation; gender; labor market.
