Resumen

SIERRA-TAPIRO, Juan Pablo. What Critical Social Work? An approach to contemporary debates about the historical perspectives to think about the profession in NuestrAmérica. Rev. eleuthera [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.1, pp.157-179.  Epub 01-Oct-2021. ISSN 2011-4532.  https://doi.org/10.17151/eleu.2021.23.1.9.

Objective.

An approximation to the historical perspectives to think about the profession in NuestrAmérica is made in this article, with the intention of making some provocations -not neutral- regarding the type of critical Social Work that is being developed in the region.

Discussion.

Starting from the regional conjuncture to think about professional corporate and ethical-political projects, The Latin American Seminar of Schools of Social Work stands out as an event that expresses the plurality of professional debate, particularly demonstrating where the plurality of professional debate is expressed, mainly highlighting the existence of three disputed perspectives: Marxist criticism, historical-disciplinary criticism and decolonial criticism. Finally, some challenges are proposed to continue the development of critical Social Work.

Conclusions.

Currently three historical perspectives are predominantly presented in debate, that are assumed as critical which imply recognizing the plurality in the profession in the commitment to a critical renewal, making explicit their possible meeting points, differences and contradictions.

Palabras clave : Critical Social Work; historical perspectives in Social Work; Marxist criticism; historical-disciplinary criticism; decolonial criticism.
