TORREGROZA-DIAZGRANADOS, Eduardo; ARISTIZABAL, Javier Ángel; VIANA, Luis Fernando y FIGUEROA, Juan David. Postsentinel lymph node in melanoma: a new diagnostic method for detection of metastatic pelvic lymph nodes. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.1, pp.33-38. ISSN 2011-7582.
Inguinal nodes are the first site of metastatic location of a primary melanoma of the lower extremities. Once inguinal metastatic lymph nodes are demonstrated, it is still not clear if the best conduct is to perform a superficial inguinal lymphadenectomy (limited lymphadenectomy) or, on the contrary, a pelvic lymphadenectomy (extended or combined inguinal lymphadenectomy). It is proposed the postsentinel node as anew diagnostic method capable of predicting pelvic node involvement and thus reducing the number of unnecessary pelvic dissections.
Palabras clave : melanoma; sentinel lymph node biopsy; lymphatic metastases.
