Resumen

CUELLAR-BARONA, Margarita  y  CAICEDO-GIRALDO, Daniela. From Self-absorption to Working with Others: Woven Space when we Come Together to Knit, Embroider and Sew. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2023, n.29, pp.281-300.  Epub 01-Ene-2023. ISSN 2011-804X.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ppo.num29-18574.

El Costurero is a space for textile creation in Cali, Colombia, which since 2018 has been convening weekly to weave, embroider and sew collectively. This article proposes to reconstruct its history and reflect on its work experience, after several years of meetings, to review its dynamics and the links that have emerged there. On the one hand, we are interested in proposing a methodological approach to this space given its work dynamics mediated by textile creation, approaching the stories of those who have been part of it and the relevance of their experience. On the other hand, we propose to explore the relationship between textile practices and their place in the private world of women, to open the way to an approach to the category of self-absorption, as an experience of individual textile work and a way of transitioning to the experience of collective work. Finally, the article proposes a reflection on research in contexts of collective creation, the work among women, and its historical connection with textile making, based on what is woven when we get together to weave, embroider and sew.

Palabras clave : collective creation; feminist ethnography; textile crafts; collective embroidery; affectivity; self-absorptio.
