INES TOURRES, LUISINA y NACUZZI, LIDIA ROSA. Diplomatic Encounters between the Caciques of the Southern Frontier and the Cabildo of Buenos Aires, 1806 (Viceroyalty of the Río de La Plata). Front. hist. [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.2, pp.222-252. ISSN 2027-4688. https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.556.
We seek to analyze the case of the offering of military aid made by caciques of the Pampa to the Cabildo of Buenos Aires during the occupation of the city by British troops in 1806. We located this episode within the history of interethnic relations that had been taking place in the southern frontier since the foundation of the city in the 16th century, in order to contextualize and discuss the established narrative about this offer. We elaborate on the caciques visits to the Cabildo and propose an analysis of the speech given by some indigenous chieftains in one of those visits. Finally, we also reflect upon different issues related to source criticism and the access to them.
