Hernando Turriago "Chapete" was a prominent cartoonist during the period of the Frente Nacional (National Front) (1958-1974) in Colombia. In his cartoons, Chapete touched different topics of public life. However, his work became important because it was a platform for to defense the National Front regime. Indeed, since the end of the dictatorship of General Gustavo Rojas (1953-1957), he undertook the defense of freedom constrained by the regime and was later dedicated to fighting the election intentions of the Alianza Nacional Popular's leader (National Popular Alliance, ANAPO). The aim of this article is to analyze and describe how Chapete fought against Rojas Pinilla and his party during election campaigns the Frente Nacional, through his cartoons. Without neglecting the contextual historical material, this article uses as historical sources, the cartoons published in the newspaper El Tiempo. The cartoon is conceived as a strategy of political struggle, rather than as art of the satire. This idea allows thinking that the cartoon of Chapete was a weapon used for the Frente Nacional regime to counter the popular and electoral strength of the General Rojas Pinilla, one of their main opponents.
