Introduction: The Objective this study was to identify and describe the model of nursing care to the family of the patient with myocardial infarction (AMI), hospitalized in the intensive care unit (UCI) of Durango's social security Institute, on this basis develop an innovative model of care. Materials and Methods: Started the 12th February 2007, until the 22th October 2008, using as reference model of the system of Family Health to the Nursing of Family Systems (Anderson 1994), instruments were designed to collect data, field diary, recorder and an observation guide. Results: There were barriers that interfere to give nursing care to family, this coupled with the problems that arise in them from having a family within this service and by which means the disease IAM, and this constantly is stress generating represented with psychological answers that cause a difficulty in the family to function and adapt to the situation of health affected by having a relative with this disease within of the UCI. Discussion and Conclusions: To answer this situation, was designed a innovative model to give care to the patient´s family with IAM hospitalized in this unit.
