Resumen

RODRIGUEZ, MANUELA. CONTRIBUTIONS TO A MULTIPLE ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMATIVE EFFECTIVENESS OF RITUAL. UNEXPECTED INCIDENTS IN AN UMBANDA CEREMONY IN ARGENTINA. Rev. colomb. antropol. [online]. 2012, vol.48, n.2, pp.163-188. ISSN 0486-6525.

In this paper I seek to deepen the notion of "performative efficacy" as a device for thinking the bodies in ritual situation, analyzing the main role played by kinesis in worships based on strong sensory stimuli, such as African-based religions in Argentina. For this analysis I will cross two axes: the performance as staging, achieved over multiple media that both reflects and produces the social order of the religious group, and the performativity as a mechanism of social and subjective production that depends on context and a particular cosmology. Taking up Tambiah's work on ritual efficacy as well as Citro's theoretical advances on kinesic behavior in festive-ritual situations, I will propose an analytical and methodological exercise in order to delve into the effectiveness of an Umbanda ritual in Argentina.

Palabras clave : umbanda; performative efficacy; corporality; Argentina.
