The adolescent population in Latin America accounts for 21% of the general population, and in Colombia fifth of the population are teenagers, is thus 43 million inhabitants. With regard to sexual and reproductive health of this population group, the National Survey of Demography and Health Profamilia (ENDS 2005) found that women under 20 years old, are increasing their fertility rate over the past 20 years. Taking into account the reality of our teenagers in the area of sexual and reproductive health and the problems arising from poor handling of this issue in the population above, the Ministry for Social Protection in 2003 formulated the National Policy on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
