Resumen

BOTERO SUAZA, José Camilo et al. THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL PERSPECTIVES OF HEALTH PROMOTION IN COLOMBIA, CUBA AND COSTA RICA: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.2, pp.59-73. ISSN 0121-7577.  https://doi.org/10.17151/hpsal.2016.21.2.5.

An integrative review of a qualitative type was carried out to the scientific literature published from 2005 to 2015 in two free access databases: Redalyc and Scielo. The objective was to comparatively analyze how Latin American countries -Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba- define promotion of health and identify practical experiences to carry it out. Materials and Methods: The descriptors of the search were Promoción de la Salud and "Health Promotion" in Spanish, English and Portuguese. A total of 536 documents were identified from which 82 met the inclusion criteria. The articles were evaluated theoretically and methodologically and findings were systematized in matrices. Results: Similarities are found in concepts of health promotion, consistent with WHO statements. On the other hand, the practical experiences are diverse in consonance with the sociopolitical context of each country. These practices emphasize the strengthening of autonomy and the acquisition of healthy behaviors, as well as health education and communication actions. While there is production that draws attention to social determinants and their influence on health promotion, emphasis is placed on individual and prescriptive strategies. Conclusions: It is necessary to consolidate a common agenda for Latin America that addresses the needs of the region and the particularities of each country, paying more attention to approaches which are collective and related to the very structure of health systems.

Palabras clave : Health promotion; Cuba; Colombia; Costa Rica; health systems.
